I am Verra Tuboro.
Hello, I am an upcoming FIU alumnus at the end of Spring 2022.
Initially, I came into this program to educate myself more about other topics and subjects aside from my usual hobbies and interests. I stayed because I came to love learning more about issues and struggles that plague our world and solutions that people are taking to combat some of these. As I was encouraged to interconnect with individuals coming from different cultural backgrounds, beliefs, professions, and lifestyles through this initiative, my global viewpoint shifted to be more inclusive, realistic, and sensible. Arriving at this reflection came about from having been involved with civic engagements with humanitarian organizations, attending Tuesday Times Roundtables, hearing out discussion forums by professionals, and taking informative courses at FIU. Having acquired passed-on knowledge especially experienced by marginalized populations, such as the homeless, LGBTQ+ community, racial minorities, senior citizens, people living with chronic disabilities, etc., I believe I gained an overwhelming amount of awareness regarding how certain life circumstances can impact people and their held-on beliefs. All enough to be able to approach people of all kinds and preferences with care, respect, and sensitivity as I was lent access to different lenses of personal perspectives throughout my journey. I hope to keep on living new experiences throughout my life as there will always be new outlooks and approaches to come across and be made aware of considering how the human experience can be so complex and interrelated.
Thank you OGLI!
